The Transition

Lindsey Buckingham
My own proclivities toward what I consider real music set aside, I find myself in an interesting internal transition period. I am beginning to acquire, and even worse, enjoy, new music. And whole new genres of music too. Well, new to me at least, but this is a big deal for me. After 26 years of dedicated listening, I am finally opening up my doors for agressive expansion. However, as my open mind succumbs to the vast quantity of independent and main stream labels I think back to what my last concert was. There was a dark, cool presence in Royce Hall and I could not wait for the show to start. Then, a faint strumming of the a guitar got louder and a man came on stage. It was Lindsey Buckingham, of Fleetwood Mac fame, starting a new tour for his new contemporary rock and roll album Gift of Screws. And that concert blew my mind with minimal production involved, believe it or not. It was the music that set me apart from everyone else that night, or at least my interpretation of it, and I began to have a new ear for new sounds.

Owl City's Newest Album, Ocean Eyes
So I think to my next concert, Owl City and Swimming With Dolphins in October. I am not going to tell you where, go look it up on the googlebook. These bands and this artist, Adam Young, are relatively new to me despite my recent attempts to presonally overplay them in my own vehicle and pool parties. I am excited about the future of these bands for one simple reason. The ‘it’ factor. And this Adam Young guy has it, to me at least. Every once in a while an artist comes along who seems to have muic flow right out of them. It seems to be uncontrollable for Adam Young, but he ist the first. Elton John, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and others are in this elitist camp of musicians and I do not think that Adam Young will fall short of their successes. The famous KROQ music station had to listen to the people, and the poeple wanted to hear “Fireflies” – the hit track of Owl City’s Ocean Eyes album. The fans spoke and this band is now being played on the radio by demand. This is only the beginning for Adam Young and I am eager to take part in his experience. The concert will be my first of its kind… and I am excited.
