A True ‘Hole In The Wall’

Submitted by blake on September 10, 2009 – 11:29 pmOne Comment

Among the hustle and bustle of West LA’s hopping Santa Monica city scene lies a true beauty of a burger joint. But it is a burger joint juiced up with a does of culinary class with a devoted focus on premium, natural ingredients mixed together to create a unique and palatable presentation. It is a true gourmet burger, but the gourmet stops at the ingredients. That is one of the reasons that separates this place from every other burger place, regardless of fine dining or fast food fares: you get old style burger joint service, attitude, and seating.

Ask the man behind the counter how he is doing and he will tell you that “it’s f**king hot back here buddy, what are ya havin’?” Or you might get a gal with a big bright smile and a fantastic sense of humor. You might have to wait for a table to open up. They don’t have much space and its getting more popular by the day. Don’t be a complainy sissy-la-la about it, go eat on the hood of your car. It will keep your burger and fries warm you big cry fairy. There are no mistakes in orders… ever. If there were any, then it would be your fault because you write it down on their worksheet (see below) and then hand it to them. All of their ingredients are fresh and locally grown, which is a great way to show community strength – a prized asset here at QNT.  Their all natural, no hormone, no antibiotic burgers are of beef, turkey, or vegetarian varieties, and are hand formed inside the kitchen. Never frozen, folks. Fresh artisan rolls from a bakery, white, wheat, and pretzel types to choose from.

Turkey Burger

Yesterday I had the turkey burger and it was well seasoned, flavorful, and more moist than any other burger Ive had elsewhere. It is an enormous burger and you definitely get your fill. Since I was heading to the beach later for some wicked rollerblading and body surfing, this was the perfect mix of natural proteins, carbs, and nutrients to fuel me for the day. Here is their you-choose menu:

MENU

All burgers are $7.95

Protein: Beef, Turkey, Veggie (each 8oz)

Bread: Pretzel Bun, Whole Wheat Bun, Old Fashioned Plain Bun

Spread: Onion Mayo, Cranberry Mayo, Chipotle Mayo

Cheese: Provolone, Cheddar, Swiss

Included Already: Red Leaf Lettuce, Sliced Red Onion, Tomato, House Made Zucchini Pickles

$1 Each Extras: Apple Wood Smoked Bacon, Avocado, Fried Egg, Roasted Bell Pepper, Sauteed Mushrooms

$2 Sides: House Made Potato Fries, House Made Sweet Potato Fries

$1.50 Each Soda: Coke, Diet Coke, 7Up, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Root Beer

That’s it people, simplicity in its most absolutely pure and delicious form. The spreads, ketchup, pickles, and fench fries are made fresh in house and they dont skimp out on any of them in your order. The zucchini pickles are incredible and the sweet potato fries are worth whatever drive you will probably complain about due to the West LA location. Wherever you are coming from, there are so many variations you can do. Here are some I have come up with. The Breakfast Burger I have made is killer and big enough for two very hungry people.

Philly Burger: Beef Burger, Plain Bun, Onion Mayo, Swiss Cheese x2, Cheddar Cheese x2, Sauteed Onion, Roasted Bell Pepper, Sauteed Mushrooms

CA Normal: Beef Burger, Plain Bun, Onion Mayo, Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Zucchini Pickles, Bacon, Avocado

Breakfast Burger: Veggie Burger, Pretzel Bun, Cranberry Mayo, Swiss Cheese, Light Sliced Red Onion, Tomato, Bacon, Avocado, Fried Egg x2, Sauteed Mushrooms, Roasted Bell Pepper

Turkey Burger: Turkey Burger, Honey Wheat Bun, Chipotle Mayo, Swiss Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Zucchini Pickles, Avocado

BBQ Burger: Beef Burger, Honey Wheat Bun, Chipotle Mayo, House Made Ketchup, Cheddar Cheese x2, Bacon, Tomato, Sauteed Onions, Sauteed Mushrooms

Trust me, this place is off the hook and you want to go.

Log off and plan a day in West LA, would you? Hit Hole in the Wall when they open Saturday morning at 11am for a nutrient packed power breakfast burger. Then head to Santa Monica Pier, Muscle Beach, and then into the ocean somewhere on the way. Then head up to the Getty Museum with a bottle of viognier, a couple of dixie cups, and someone looking for modeling/acting work to enjoy some fine art styles and a beautiful sunset scene. That’s an entire day in LA for around $25 bucks people and in this economy, that ain’t half bad. That’s what I did yesterday. I met a guy named Jeremy on the beach, he has just moved from France and has been in the US for only three weeks. He is a photographer going to Santa Monica City College.

You never know what you are going to find. A new friend or a hole in the wall that turns out to be a new world of tasty mouth treats. Go get you some.
